Birla Art Museum was established in the year 1966 and is located at Rabindra sarobar in Kolkata. Birla Art Musuem is a state gallery depicting the traditional and cultural heritage of India as well as a permanent showcase of Indian contemporary art. Paintings of the medieval age and modern art and various archaeological remains are displayed here. Frequent exhibitions by the contemporary Indian sculptors and painters are held. Among the notable collections, there are granite images of Ganesha and Shiva as Jnana Dakshinamurti. The musuem also houses manuscripts including the Persian translation of the Mahabharata, the Hafiz gazals in the Mughal style and a copy of the Shabnama. It also has the 13th century Jain palm leaf folios. There are the Sikh school exhibits like a miniature of Krishna and an illustrated Urdu manuscript on farming.There are many more things in the museum which has made this musuem a worth visiting place for any visitors.
