Probably the modern Day Vivian Richards in Indian colors. Virender Sehwag created a name for his self with his explosive batting that ranks beyond anything else. One he is one the field and gets going it is impossible to get him out only if he is quick to commit a mistake. Known for its blatant and barbaric batting at the top order Virender Sehwag has commanded the respect and the fear of bowling sides all over the world. The propensity and the time and tested role of a match winner Sehwag talent goes beyond the exploits of his career status and shares and broken several records held by the stalwarts of the game.
EARLY LIFE- The cricketer was born and then fostered with an inclination for the game. It was gift of a toy bat that Sehwag attributes to be the start for the love of the game. At an early age itself the batsman took up the game and played with dedication and confidence and a characteristic fearlessness that became part of his batting. Some much so that an injury sustained to him in an under 12 match where he broke his tooth angering his father who threatened to end his playing.
But the determent Sehwag wanted to the played the game and modeled himself after then youngster that burst into the cricket scene, Sachin Tendulkar. Little did he know that he would share the same dressing room with the idol. Sehwag made his mark in Delhi’s Ranji team and was selected to play for India in one day after his performance. However he scored poorly in that match with just one run and had to wait for almost a year before getting selected again.
STYLE OF PLAY- Moreover a thinking Cricketer Sehwag has been an a prompt and responsive batsman adapting to the situation. It his fearlessness on the cricket field that has he been known for. Striking opposition bowlers to all corners of the park and even shattering reputations. Many have also claimed his approach to be reckless however Sehwag has never believed in concealing himself while playing even in the toughest situation.
He showed his prowess in his comeback match against New Zealand by scoring a maiden hundred from 65 balls. He has certainly maintained and upheld standards of excellence in all formats of the game. So much so that for him a test match is a like a one day divided into various section and this has enabled him to accumulate test runs like no other batsman in world cricket.
CARRER- Sehwag One day career can be best highlighted with his blistering strike rate of 103.44 which is second only to Shahid Afridi who is still a part of the active cricket. The reason for this is he is one of the most explosive and hard hitting batsmen. But in comparison Shahid Afridi average is much lesser or not even substantial this respect Sehwag has maintained himself in the best possible manner and that too without any problems. He has been one of India’s most successful batsmen in second innings chases with 13 centuries in the second innings which is the most by an player. In test he has carved a niche for himself in terms of Test match and has accumulated the most number of runs and that too at a striking pace. Scoring a debut hundred at his first test at Bloemfontein and then being asked to open the prolific run scorer went on to score runs in bulk and rewrite many records.
In a testy career of more than a decade Sehwag averages at 50 with a blistering of 82 with as many as 22 hundred and 15 scores in 150 surpassing the great Sir Donald Bradman and two triple tons the most by any Indian and also tied with Brian Lara. His prolific pace of run getting ability has been surpassed by none. However his style of batting has also given things away and he was dismissed a mere seven runs from a record third triple century. He also scored many of his fifties at a blistering pace but has thrown away his wicket with rash shots. Acclaimed the most exciting opening batsman Sehwag has battered opposition and has scored at unthinkable pace.

CRTICISM AND CONTROVERSY- Sehwag found himself in controversy in his test where he was banned for excessive appealing. This particular test also saw as many as six players being banned from the next test. In the next tour however Sehwag found himself again in trouble and found himself in trouble being unable to play as the test series was suspended and despite negotiation with the ECB he was repealed to sit out. Sehwag recently found himself in controversy in what seemed to be strained relation with his team mate and captain. Rumors mills were abuzz of the fact that the team was divided in two camps. While Mahendra was quick to deny Sehwag’s statements fuelled more speculation.
PERSONAL LIFE- Sehwag is married to Aarti Ahlawat. The couple married on the 4th of April 2004 and was a much publicized function. The then Union Minister Arun Jaitley hosted the couple’s wedding. The couple have two sons Aryavir born in 2007 and Vedant born in 2010.
PRESENT TIME- Though he has not be able to score briskly and has been in an out of the team due to incumbent illness and injury that has a plagued him he is one India’s trump players in every tournament. Sehwag is more than just a cricketer but a keen observer of the game and is known for his astute and candid views that he has continued to express without any compulsion or fear. Moreover he has taken a strong stand on issues that affect and are part and parcel of the game. With a distinctive personality that is typical of Sehwag the cricketer is one of the greatest contemporaries to grace the field.

319 V/ s South Africa at Chennai on 26th March, 2008
Irrespective of the fact that this is the highest score by an Indian. The innings is remembered for controlled aggression and stroke player. The Chennai crowd were entertained by the Multan Mauler who literally took the game away from South Africa single handedly with his batting.
