Kolaveri Di may have been Dhanush claim to fame, but the actor has stood out as a complete artist with his all round affinity towards cinema. This can well be seen in his ability that extends beyond acting prowess. The actor is among the few multifaceted talents down south and has downed various roles that of producer, writer, lyricist and playback singer. As an actor, he has offered both individuality to his characterization and that has been the reason for his success.
Dhanush Early life- Born Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raj, Dhanush is the son of noted director Kasthuri Raja. This was one of the major reasons for his interest towards films. He completed his education from St. John's Matriculation Higher Secondary School Alwarthirunagar, before taking a plunge into acting in films.
Dhanush Film Career- The actor started his film career at the age of 20 with the film Thulluvadho Ilamai (2001). The film was directed by his father Kasthuri Raja. The film was a blockbuster and picked big reviews. But the breakthrough film as part of the actor was concerned was the film Kandal Kondein which was his brother Selvaraghavan first film. The actor essayed the role of a mentally disturbed boy who yearned for real love. His next film Thiruda Thirudi was also a hit among the audiences. However after a hat trick of hits at the box office the actor experienced a setback as far as films are concerned. The actor's films Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan and Sullan received rave reviews and were not commercially successful. In 2005 the actor’s Devathaiyai Kanden and the much-hyped Balu Mahendra's Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam grossed averagely at the box office. In 2006 the actor did the film Pudhapetti, though it received critical acclaim it failed to strike a chord with the tamil audiences.The film was directed by the actor’s brother.
In 2007 the actor acted in Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram a remake of the Telegu Film Jog. However the film bombed at the box office. Polladhvan the second film that released in Diwali was a block buster hit. In the same year he also appeared in cameo role in his father- in- law Rajnikanth’s film Kuselan (2008). His 2009 film Padikathavan opposite Tamannaah Bhatia was a superhit in particular but the actor was also appreciated for his performance. Thus the actor again completed a hat trick of success at the box-office. His 2010 films films Kutty and Uthama Puthiran, received mixed responses at the box office.
2011 Aadukalam, can well be called the best performance at the box office. The film also bagged him his first National Award at the age of 28. The actor essayed the role of a cock fighter in the film and the film gained positive reviews at the box office.He shared the National Award that year with actor Salim Kumar and he became the youngest actor to win a national award. He also appeared in a remake of his father film Mapillai. The film opened to good reviews but was an average grosser at the box office. His next film collaboration with his brother Mayakkam Enna r was a hit at the box office. His recent release 3 Directed by his wife Aishwarya Dhanush 3 did well at the box office. The film particularly gained high popularity prior to the release, after the single track "Why This Kolaveri Di", penned and sung by Dhanush went viral. The song of the film became a party anthem. In this film the actor essayed the role of a individual suffering from Bipolar disorder.

Dhanush other film related works- If you think that Kolaveri Di was his first song as a playback singer then think again. The actor made his singing debut with the film Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan courtesy composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and collaborated again with him in his brother Selvaraghavan's directorial venture, Pudhupettai. He sung further numbers in Selvaraghavan's films Aayirathil Oruvan and Mayakkam Enna; the former featured him alongside his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth. His biggest success became the song "Why this Kolaveri Di" from his upcoming film 3, directed by his wife.
Dhanush Personal Life- Dhanush is married to daughter of Southern Superstar Rajnikanth. The couple have two children Yatra and Linga.

Dhanush controversies- There have been a number of allegations against the actor which cannot be neglected. In the film Parattai Ennum Azagu Sundaram movie produced by Keyar. The producer stated that the actor was demanding a higher paycheck. In not willing to do so the actor stalled the shooting of the film and also asked his leading lady Meera Jasmine to stop work on the film. The media have often speculated reports about the actor’s relationship with fellow co-star and contemporary Shimbu. There has been a trend among both actors to outdo and perform each other and this is a known fact among industry insiders.
