Another talent from down south Asin has proved her versatility in actor and hence a became a choice and preference for actors in Bollywood and a major reason for this is the versatility in the roles that she has been cast. She tasted success at a very young age and to a certain extent has been consolidate with impressive roles, but this is just the beginning.
Asin Early life- Asin was born to Joseph and Dr Seline Thottumukal originally from Syro Nasrani family from in Thodupuzha. Her mother is a surgeon by profession and the family moved from Kochi to Chennai. Asin father was keen to name his daughter Mary. However Asin grandmother suggested the name stating that it had a deeper meaning of being without sin. She attended the Navy Children School. She attended the eminent St. Teresa College in Kochi and earned a BA in English Literature. The actress is also well versed linguistically. She is well versed in Malayalam, Tamil, Telegu, Hindi, French, English and Sanskrit.
Asin’s Film Career- She made her debut in Sathyan Anthikkad directed Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001) (Malayalam) opposite Kuncahko Boban. At the time the actress was just 16 and the film did considerably well at the box office. She acted in the movie Amma Nana O Tamila Ammayi (2002) however her first film in the language was M Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi. This movie saw her essay the role of Malayalee girl and the film went on to became a blockbuster hit. Her next films Chakram and Ullam Ketkumae (2002) also did well at the box office.
She then went to deliver a string of successful and critically appreciated film like Ghajini, Majaa, Sivakasi, Varalaru, Annavaram, Aalwar, Pokkiri and Vel. These films catapulted her into the main league of Tamil actresses. Not many known that the role she played in the magnum opus Dashavatharam was initially offered to Vidya Balan. The film opened to mixed responses however it made just close to the production cost and earned a marginal profit. Asin was then retained as the main lead in Aamir Khan’s Ghajini. The film did extremely well and she was highly appreciated for her performance in the movie, similar to her other film elsewhere.
She then went on to star opposite Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan in “London Dreams”. The film did badly in terms of box office collections. However in 2011 she returned with the movie ‘Ready which went on to become a superhit. Her next film Housefull 2 was also a hit. Her latest film Bol Bachchan starring Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan and Prachi Desai opened to the biggest advance collection of the year. It received mixed critical acclaim and was a hit at the box office.
Asin Upcoming movies- Asin Upcoming movies ‘Khiladi 786’ which stars Akshay Kumar and is slated for release on 7th December, 2012. There are also unconfirmed reports that actress has been signed up for a film ‘Most Wanted’ starring Salman Khan. Other such movies that are expected include Aap Ka Saiya and Aise ko Taisa. She also expected to film for a Tamil movie Valiban stated for release in June next year.
Asin Personal Life- Asin presently stays with her family in Mumbai. She considers herself a true Malayalee girl in various aspects of her life. She is also someone who devoted hers elf to social causes. She has funded the education of a 8 year old girl Radhika in Kerala. She has also extended her support to the Sri Lankan Tamils who were affected by the Sri Lankan Wars. She has actively participated in women oriented issues in particular the support of education. On a personal level she also loves books and spends a considerable amount of time reading.

Asin Controversies- The actress has not remained away from controversies. It was reported that Katrina got upset when she heard that her beau was helping Asin find a house in Mumbai. There is also an allegation that actress refused a role in Farah Khan’s next directorial venture, “Happy New Year”, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The publication retracted the story who had published the same. Her involvement in Sri Lankan Tamil issue also landed her in controversy. She detracted to all such issues and has continually stated that she has been targeted. She was allegedly linked with Neil Nitin Mukesh.
Asin Latest News- The actress is to essay the role of a Marathi mulgi in Khiladi 786. The film slated for release on 7th December, 2012. Slated to be a big release both for Akshay Kumar, the actress is also eagerly awaiting the release of the film. She stated that expectation was running high in terms of this film and she wanted to deliver her best. However this would only be decided once the film hits the box office.
Asin has gained tremendous success as far as her films are considered. Her best solo performance is yet to come. However understanding this fact she is raring to make her mark and in the industry and further consolidate her position as a true versatile actor.
