Adjectives at times are difficult to describe the contribution of the superstar in the industry. He is one of the spoken and written superstars of all time and his contribution to cinema is indelible. The superstar of the millennium can certainly give the other youngster a run for their money. However it has never been easy and there have been tough times in the life of the thespian. But as they stay Tough times come and go but tough people stay. The ideal conventional Angry Youngman lives on for all time.
Amitabh Bachchan Early life- Amitabh Bachchan was born on the 11th October, 1942. The actor was born in the months following the Quit Indian Movement and his father wanted to name him Inquilab. However on the insistence of a fellow poet Harivansh Rai named his son Amitabh meaning the light that would never go out. Though the family surname was Srivastva his father insisted on using his pen name Bachchan. Amitabh schooled at the Jnana Pramodhini School and later at the Boy High School. He completed his education from the Sherwood College at Nainital and then at the Kirror Mal College in Delhi. He took up his first job at the Shaw Wallace. Amitabh later worked as a Freight broker for Shipping Firm. For an average individual this was the perfect time to settle down. However the actor quit his job to pursue a career in acting.
Amitabh Bachchan Film Career- It was not easy for the actor to get a break in the industry and the initial days were of struggle and rejection. There were many directors and producers who rejected him because of his height, his dark complexion which was not suitable for acting in black and white films and also deep brooding personality intense eyes. But those who rejected him did not even have the slightest idea that this actor who epitomize the angry young generation of the 70’s and the 80’s. The actor made his debut with the film Saat Hindustani that comprised of all new comers. The film earned the actor his first Filmfare Award for Debutant of the year. However success was difficult in coming back and the actor had to actually wait for his break. He acted in Films like Reshma Aur Shera Parwana. However his film alongside the superstar of the time Rajesh Khanna really got him noticed.
His Performance in Anand earned his second Filmfare Award for the best Supporting Actor. Bachchan breakthrough Role however came in the film in the film Zanjeer (1973). This film epitomized the actor as the angry young man that of the times. He established this person in a series of films like Dewaar (1975), Sholay (1975), Trishul and Don (1978).Amitabh sustained the image of angry young man through these films. He also acted in films with violent melodramatic genre, Mukandar Ka Sikandar (1978) and Shakti. Amitabh also shined in films with comedic genres and films like Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and Chupke Chupke (1975). With his role he consolidated himself as a complete actor and at the same time he was the reigning superstar of the 1980’s. This actor continued to deliver a series of hits at the box office. On 26th July, 1982 while shooting for a fight scene in the movie the actor was seriously injured.
The actor was required to fall on the ground instead he jumped towards the table and ruptured his spleen. He lost considerable amount of blood and was operated for an emergency spletonomy. The actor injury was near fatale and took months for recuperation. The entire nation played for his recovery. However the actor came out of the injury but was not the same. He appeared more pessimistic and felt weakened from the incident. Later on the actor was diagnosed with rare muscular disorder known as Myasthenia gravis. In 1984 he made his plunge into politics and entered politics with the long time support of his friend Rajiv Gandhi. He contested from Allahabad Lok Sabha seat and won with huge margin.
But Bachchan stinct as a politician was short-lived and he had to quit politics as the Bofors Scandal rocked the government. The actor admitted that those times were serious and he suffered as a huge dent to his credibility as a public figure. He was proved innocent against all the charges against him. He returned into doing films. But the Industry had changed and there was a new breed of actors who replaced the angry young man. The actor returned to the box office with hits like Shahenshah (1988), Agneepath (1990) and Khuda Gawah (1992). However his other films did not do well at the box office. He ventured into production in the mid 1990’s with Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited.
However the lack of expertise and business acumen saw him incur losses and landed him in immense debts. There were doubts that the actor would make a comeback. However he defied all odds against him and stepped up as the host of the Indian version of ‘who wants to be a Millionaire’. The actor was later seen in Mohabbatein along with Shah Rukh Khan. This film was instrumental and the actor went on from strength to strength. The 2000’s saw the actor act indifferent and versatile roles be it the Don in Sarkar (2005) and Sarkar raj (2008), Pa (2009) and then as father of a martyred BSK Jawan in Major Ravi Kandahar (Malayalam) and of late Buddha Hoga Tere Baap. The actor has actually gone from strength to strength and his late film proved that there are still directors who are willing to cast him in the lead role.

Amitabh Bachchan Controversies- On 2 June 2007 a Faizabad court ruled that he had legally acquired agricultural land designated specifically for landless Dalit farmers. It was speculated that he might be investigated on related charges of forgery, as he has allegedly claimed he was a farmer. On 19 July 2007, after the scandal broke out, Bachchan surrendered the land acquired in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh and Pune. He wrote to the chief minister of Maharashtra, Vilasrao Deshmukh, to donate the lands that were allegedly acquired illegally in Pune. However, the Lucknow Court has put a stay on the land donation and said that the status quo on the land be maintained.
In 2009 Bachchan Senior saw himself embroiled in another political controversy when Raj Thackery stated that he was actor was inclined to his native state than Maharashtra. More than a month and half after Raj's remarks, Amitabh finally spoke out in an interview to a local tabloid saying, "Random charges are random; they do not deserve the kind of attention you wish me to give." Later, on 28 March at a press conference for the International Indian Film Academy, when asked what his take was on the anti-migrant issue, Amitabh said that it is one's fundamental right to live anywhere in the country and the constitution entitles so. He also stated that he was not affected by Raj's comments.
