Nagarjuna is probably one of the versatile talents down south, His claim to fame is the undoubtedly the dubbing of hit films which have given him a distinctive identity throughout the country. A major reason for his success in films has been the affinity towards cinema that has allowed him to bring out the best in his performance and be a complete actor in terms of lengths of characterization. A true heir to the cinematic tradition of the Akkineni, the actor continues to enthrall audiences with his performances.

Akkineni Nagarjuna Early Career- Nagarjuna was born on the 29th August, 1959 in Chennai, Tamilnadu to Nageshwar Rao and Annapurna Akkineni. The family was based in Chennai and later on shifted to Hyderabad. The actor schooled at the Hyderabad Public School completed his junior college studies from Little Flower Junior College and did his BE from the College of Engineering Gunidy, Chennai.  He also completed his MS in automobile Engineering from Eastern Michigan University.

Nagarjuna Film Career- Not many know that the actor started his film career as a child artist in the film Sudigundalu (1967).  Year later the actor made his debut with the film Vikram (1986) directed by veteran director Adhurthi Subbarao. He then went on to star in the film Akhri Poratam directed by Raghevendra Rao and he was paired opposite leading ladies Sridevi and Sushasini. In 1989 she starred in Mani Ratnam romantic drama Geethanjali (1989). The film was box office success and the film also won the National Award in 1990 in the category for the best popular film providing Wholesome Entertainment.  The actor followed it with another hit performance in the film Satya (1989) that was directed by Ram Gopal Varma. 

The film earned him a Filmfare Award for his performance and the film was subsequently remade into Hindi with same title in 1990.In the films following this he worked in films Killer, Chaithanya and Nirnayam directed Fazil and Priyadarshan.  The other films that he did during beginning of the 1990’s include President Gari Pellam, Varasudu, Gharana Bullodu and Allari Allud. In the mid 90’s the actor starred in bilingual Hindi and Telegu Film Criminal Directed by Mahesh Bhatt. In the same year he essayed his first full length comedy role with the film  Hello Brother that was remade in a Hindi as  Judwaa. In 1996, Nagarjuna starred and produced Ninne Pelladatha, which was directed by Krishna Vamsa. The movie fetched a National Award for him by winning the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.

The next year, Nagarjuna acted in Annamayya where he portrayed the role of Annamacharya, a 15th-century Telugu singer and poet, won him his third Filmfare Best Actor Award and his first Nandi Award for Best Actor. His subsequent releases were Nuvvu Vastavani, Ninne Premistha and Azad. He starred in the romantic comedies such as Santhosham, Manmadhudu, and Shivamani as well. He produced Satyamin 2003 that starred his nephew Sumanth. In 2004 the actor had two releases Nenunnanu and Mass. However his claim to fame came with the movie  Don (2007) this film widened the actor’s audience and a major reason for this was dubbing of the film in Hindi and other languages.

Nagarjuna Upcoming Movies- Nagarjuna Film Shirdi Sai released on the 12th October 2012 where he essays the role of Shri Sai Baba. His upcoming movies include Dhamarkuman that is being readied for release and Love Story with actress Nayantara.

Nagarjuna personal Life- The actress was married to Lakshmi Ramanaidu Daggubati in 1984. However the couple divorced in the 1992. The actress then married his co star Amala whom he starred in Shiva (1990). Nagarjuna has two children one Naga Chaithanya Akkineni and Akhil Akkineni. Naga Chaithanya has already started acting in films.

Nagarjuna Charity- Nagarjuna is the co-founder of Blue Cross Hyderabad. This organization is an Ngo that  works towards the welfare and the preservation of animal Rights. He was also involved in some of the welfare programs organized by  MAA TV.

Nagarjuna Controversies- The actor has not been free from controversies. Some time ago a women free lance journalist had filed a case against the actor under section 509. Stating that the actor assaulted the petitioner. The actor apparently denied her a chance to interview him and at the same time also heckled her outside the vicinity of the shooting. The incident created a sensation both in the media circles and in the film fraternity as the charges for the same are series and it is regarded as a non baliable offence. Akkineni Nagarjuna upcoming movie Damarukam, which is one of the most-awaited flicks of 2012, has now landed in a title controversy. Filmmaker Naveen Kalyan has alleged that he has been doing a movie with the same title, but the production house RR Movie Makers has allegedly used it for the King's film.
