Engineering through correspondence soon
Human Resource and Development minister said in statement that the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) would soon allow technical courses for engineering to be done through correspondence. After meeting with AICTE chairman SS Mantha and other officials Minister SS Palam Raju said that a new body for technical education i.e. The Indian Board of Accreditation (IBA) would be constituted soon. At present, students wishing to pursue MBA (management) and BCA and MCA (computer application) courses have the option of doing so through correspondence. But the AICTE does not allow the same for engineering courses. The Chairman of AICTE stated that the committee has decided to include technical courses based on the recommendations of various committees. Mantha said that nearly all courses expect medicine and architecture would be allowed through correspondence. However he said that the final decision on the matter would be made after discussion. Mantha added that an entrance test would be organised for graduate level courses, while Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores might be considered for entrance to post-graduate courses.
