Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited was incorporated in 1956. The company is a government-owned lignite mining and power generating company. The company operates the largest open-pit lignite mines in India, presently mining 24 MT of lignite and has an installed capacity of 2740 MW of electricity. It also supplies a large quantity of sweet water to Chennai from the artesian aquifers in the lignite mines. Also the company provide consultancy in Mining & Power Sector. The Company has four lignite mines - Mine-I - 10.5 MTPA, Mine-IA- 3.0 MTPA, Mine-II - 15.0 MTPA and Barsingsar Mine - 2.1 MTPA. The Company has four power generations: Thermal Power Station-I (600 megawatts), Thermal Power Station-I Expansion (420 megawatts), Barsingsar Thermal Power Station (250 megawatts) and Barsingsar Thermal Power Station (250 megawatts).
